I kinda grew up in hospitals. My uncle and my grandfather, my mom were all involved in healthcare so I pretty much was in a hospital setting most of my life, had great mentors like with anesthesiologists and orthopedic surgeons and knew that healthcare was always the field that I wanted to do.
Being a Texan, I liked working outside, working with my hands which also led to kinda getting my Eagle Scout and outdoor stuff. So, I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare and with my hands and basically what I found and fell in love with was dentistry because it gives me the ability to be with patients but also in a way that allows me to bring something into their lives that they’ll take with and it can bring them joy and happiness.
It’s twofold. There’s two different types of patients that are extremely rewarding. Anxious patients that have had dental trauma and have extreme dental anxiety. I love seeing them overcome those fears and that anxiety as they’re getting comfortable with kind of us and working and growing a relationship basically as a provider and it’s rewarding to see them overcome those fears and come to the practice excited rather than being nervous. And that’s rewarding. And then having patients that come in covering their smile. After building them back up and giving them their smile back, coming and smiling every time, that’s extremely rewarding.
