Relax Dental

Your Trusted Team for Sedation Dentistry

Whether you need a little bit of help relaxing or a higher-level IV sedation treatment, we’ve got the right solution for you!

Level 1 Sedation

Level One Sedation uses introductory level sedation techniques to make the patient feel more comfortable. These techniques may include hypnosis, use of hard- and soft-tissue lasers, warming of the local anesthetics, or using small pediatric needles to start all injections. Members of your care team will speak to you in a calm and soothing voice to avoid sparking anxiety.

Level 2 Sedation

Level Two Sedation involves adding nitrous oxide to decrease the patient’s apprehension. With Level Two, we will also use local anesthesia as needed.

Level 3 Sedation

Level Three Sedation incorporates anti-anxiety or relaxation medications given to patients intra-orally (by mouth) before treatment. This allows many patients to go through treatment in a more relaxed state. With Level Three Sedation, we monitor the patient’s pulse, heart rate, and blood pressure throughout the procedure.

Level 4 Sedation

Level Four Sedation treatment–also known as IV Sedation Dentistry—involves adding intravenous (by vein) sedation medication to produce a mild conscious sedation state. The patient can maintain his or her airway and respond to stimuli, thus minimizing the possibility of low oxygen levels and cardiac events. We monitor the patient’s pulse, heart rate, and blood pressure closely, and use a capnography machine to monitor their oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.

Level 5 Sedation

Level Five Sedation is the only level of sedation we do not perform in our office. In this scenario, dental treatment is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital setting, and monitored by an anesthesiologist.
